Description
What is a certified copy?
✅ A certified copy is an official reproduction of a document, issued with a certification confirming its authenticity.
📄 It may include affixed Internal Revenue Service stamps or an equivalent official certification, depending on the type of document and the applicable system.
When is a certified copy required?
⚖️ It is required for legal, government, banking, immigration, or official procedures in Puerto Rico and, at times, outside of Puerto Rico.
📌 Certified copies are used for documents such as:
- Judgments or court orders
- Court case files or documents
- Notarized documents or deeds
- Other official documents when you are asked to provide a “certified” copy
✅ If they asked you for a certified copy, it’s because they don’t accept an uncertified copy, a photo, or an uncertified PDF.
Certified copies of divorce decrees
✅ We can obtain a certified copy of the divorce decree if that is the document you are being asked to provide.
⚠️ However, for many procedures, only the Certificate of Divorce is required if the marriage was registered in Puerto Rico.
👉 Before placing your order, make sure to check exactly whether you are being asked to provide a certified judgment, a divorce certificate, or both documents.
Who can request a certified copy?
✅ It depends on the type of document and whether it is a public, restricted, or confidential document.
🔒 In the case of confidential or restricted-access documents, such as those related to family matters, minors, or divorce, copies may generally only be requested by the parties involved, their authorized representatives, or a person with sufficient standing.
📜 In the case of notarial documents or deeds, the request must typically be made by a party, an interested party, heir a person entitled to a copy, as applicable.
Pre-Order Evaluation Form
✅ In some cases, you can order directly, especially if you know exactly which document you need and have the information required to locate it.
⚠️ However, in many cases it is best to fill out the Assessment Form first to confirm whether we can process the document before placing the order.
📌 Please complete the Assessment Form first if:
- He isn't sure whether he needs a certified copy, a certificate, a judgment, a deed, or some other document.

- This is a confidential document related to family matters, minors, divorce, or other issues that may require authorization.
- He does not have a valid photo ID.
- He would like us to first assess whether we can handle the document.

The fee is very affordable and well-worth the cost. It would have been many times more expensive to travel to Puerto Rico to obtain the documents personally, and extremely difficult to do given the COVID-19 situation.

It has been a satisfying experience, the lawyer was in contact with me all the time and most importantly the impossible made it possible to get a document almost 21 years ago in less than 15 days. Thank you for restoring the confidence of one who does not know you in person, but with this work I recommend you blindly. Blessings to your team and keep it even though they will continue to grow that spirit of service and dedication.
