The application may be filed by the deceased person’s father, mother, children, grandchildren, grandparents, legal representative, or heirs.

You must provide a copy of a valid photo ID, such as a driver's license, government-issued ID, or passport.

They can generally be requested starting from 1885, under the former Civil Registry, although there may be exceptions depending on the record and the available information.

The current official format is the one issued in July 2010, which is red.

The standard certificate is the most common type and is usually sufficient for most official procedures. The full or “extended” certificate includes additional information and is used for special procedures, such as applying for Spanish citizenship, correcting errors, or changing one’s name.

A standard certificate typically takes 15 business days under normal processing, 10 business days under expedited service, or 5 business days under urgent service. Deaths that occurred 100 years ago or more, as well as full-text certificates, may take up to 30 calendar days.
