You can request the Divorce Certificate directly from us. - ⚠️ Marriage in Puerto Rico and divorce outside of Puerto Rico:
First, you must have the foreign divorce recognized in Puerto Rico through a procedure called exequatur. Only then can you apply for the Certificate of Divorce. - ⚠️ Marriage outside Puerto Rico and divorce in Puerto Rico:
You must request a certified copy of the divorce decree from us, rather than this certificate from the Demographic Registry.
What happens after divorce in Puerto Rico?
🏛️ Once the divorce decree is issued in Puerto Rico, the court must send it to the Demographic Registry so that it can be officially registered.
⚠️ However, this is not always the case. If the divorce was not recorded in the Civil Registry, you will need to obtain a certified copy of the divorce decree. This involves an additional cost.
